Instead of eating with the group, Reno decided to take me to breakfast alone. Snuggled into a booth in the rear of a really cool diner in San Diego, we ate our breakfast while sharing lingering looks at one another.
He poked the corner of his toast in his mouth. âThis is weird.â
âWhat?â I asked. âEating breakfast together?â
âNo.â He sighed. âFeeling like this.â
âLike what?â
âI like being around you.â
I mentally laughed at his declaration. He truly was Mister Wishy-Washy.
He liked being around me. It wasnât much of an admittance, and it surely wasnât that big of a deal. Hoping there was more to it than that, I pressed on.
âFeeling like what?â I asked.
He fidgeted with his fingernails. âI donât think I like this friendship thing as much as I thought I was going to.â
He liked being around me, but disliked being friends. My heart sank. I wanted desperately to fix matters but didnât know what was broken. I hoped he wasnât going to give me the dreaded itâs not you, itâs me speech. Especially after the two magical kisses we shared.
I started to speak, but hesitated. After a moment, my curiosity got the best of me. âWhat do you dislike about it?â
âThe âbeing friendsâ part.â
âDo you want more?â I blurted before I had a chance to stop myself.
He shifted his attention from his cuticles to me. âI think I might.â
A wave of relief washed over me. Iâd feared the opposite. His response was food for my relationshipâs starving soul. I poked at what was left of my eggs with the tines of my fork. âLike what?â
âWhat are my options?â
âNormally, I can be pretty accommodating.â I put down my fork and laced my fingers together. âIâd say Iâm open to suggestions.â
âI think I want to tryââ
âI wonât be used,â I said, not giving him a chance to finish. âI donât know what youâre getting at, but if itâs a relationship, this is going to be much more than just sex. I had one relationship like that, and I wonât have another.â
A look of confusion washed over him. âWhat do you mean?â
âYouâre talking about a relationship, right?â
âSomething along those lines, I guess.â
I wondered if all men were as difficult to understand as he was. It was frustrating to try and read between the lines, and I wasnât sure if I was following along the right path.
âWeâre friends,â I said. âYou said you enjoyed being around me, and that you wanted more. The next step would be a relationship.â I raised my brows in wonder. âIs that what you want?â
âHell, I donât know. I like being around you but being around you isnât as easy as I thought itâd be.â
I coughed out a laugh. âWhat in the heck does that mean?â
âI should just be able to sit here and talk to you. Instead, Iâm wrestling with my feelings, fighting to keep my cock from getting hard, and spending a lot of time staring at your tits. I canât even explain what caused me to kiss you.
